The flagship choir of SVCC, the Concert Choir is made up of more than 80 advanced choristers ranging from age 10-18, selected through an audition process. Focusing on high-quality performance, Concert Choir sings treble repertoire using two- to four-part harmony, challenging vocal technique, score analysis, dissonant intervals, and multiple foreign languages. Concert Choir tours include local, regional, national, and international venues. All members of Concert Choir participate in either an SSA (soprano, soprano, alto) subset of the choir or an SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) subset of the choir.
The Concert Choir is directed by Janet Hostetter, and meets weekly on Mondays from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Treble choir is comprised of more than 40 children ages 9-14 and builds on fundamental principles of music. The Treble Choir focuses on vocal technique, sight singing, music literacy, ear training, round singing, and repertoire with up to three voice parts. Treble Choir members are selected through an audition process and perform three or more concerts throughout the year.
Treble Choir is directed by Janet Hostetter with Jeff Hunt’s assistance, and meets weekly on Mondays for a total of 1 hour 15 minutes from 4:45-6:15 p.m.
The youngest of the performance choirs, The Preparatory Choir consists of more than 30 children ages 7-11, selected through an audition process. The primary focus of the Preparatory choir is learning best practices in choral singing, including breathing, diction, posture, healthy vocal production, performance etiquette, ear training, sight singing, and round singing. Preparatory choir performs on two concerts throughout the year.
Prep Choir is directed by Joy Anderson, and meets weekly on Mondays for a total of 1 hour 15 minutes from 4:45-6:15 p.m.
