Explorers

Explorers is a beginning music exploratory program designed for kindergarten and first grade students. This class focuses on the fundamentals of music: ear training, healthy singing, intonation, reading music, singing in parts, beat-keeping, solfege*, reading rhythms, focus, concentration, and improvisation. Explorers is an active game-oriented learning environment, engaging motor, oral, aural, and cognitive abilities. This is a non-auditioned, non-performing group.

In-person training will occur on ten consecutive Monday evenings beginning September 18, 2023 for the fall semester and January 15, 2024 for the spring semester.

Jessica Strawderman and Karen Reichard will provide instruction. Mrs. Reichard will teach Explorers 2 (experienced beginners ages 6-7) at 4:30-5:10 p.m. and Mrs. Strawderman will teach Explorers 1 (beginners ages 5-6) at 4:50-5:30 p.m. each Monday.

*Solfege is a technique for the teaching of sight singing in which each note of the score is sung to a special syllable, called a solfege syllable. Each solfege syllable has a hand sign that goes with it. These hand signs add physical and visual cues to what’s going on in your ear and voice.

Instructors: Jessica Strawderman and Karen Reichard
